Facebook Search
It is great to see that there have been quite a number of changes in the Facebook Search functionality. Facebook and the Bing Search Engine are closely collaborating to bring the most relevant search results to the most popular social media site in the planet right now.
When you start entering a search keyword in the Facebook Search box, the first thing that you would notice is the “Search Suggest” feature. It is providing suggested search results as you type a letter into the search box. It displays the top three suggested search results in a dropdown menu. Apparently, it would first look at the most relevant Facebook Fan Page before checking on the Facebook User Profile (People). For Fan Pages, the top spot would be taken by the relevant page that has the highest number of Like in Facebook. So if you try to enter the word “Edward”, then the first result in the search suggest dropdown menu would be ‘Edward Cullen’ from the box office hit movie, Twilight. It is not that surprising because he is such a heartthrob and a famous character at this time.

Clicking on the Enter key would take you to the first suggested result displayed in the dropdown menu. If you opt to see the entire search results list, then you would want to click on the magnifying glass icon. Facebook Search will generate the most relevant Facebook records for your search keyword such as Fan Pages, User Profile (People), Groups, Applications, and Events.
At the left side of the Facebook search results page, you would find different options to further filter these records. Just click on ‘People’ if you want to only see the Facebook User Profile (People) records.

The filter can also be applied to Events, Post by Friends, Public Posts, and Posts in Groups. The data that you would see would depend on the privacy settings defined by the Facebook user. This control what content can be shared in other people’s search results.
Facebook Search will also display the most relevant results generated by the Bing Search Engine on the web. This is a confirmation that Bing is integrating with Facebook during the search query process. Thus, it is not only generating Facebook data but also relevant results maintained by other websites.
Facebook Search For People
Another cool thing with Facebook Search is that when you are looking at a list of Facebook User Profile (People) records in the search results page, it provides a more detailed snapshot of that Facebook profile at first glance like the person’s school, birth of place, and birth date.
A second level of filtering is also applicable for the Facebook User Profile (People) search results. You can add the Location, Workplace, and Education (Name of University and Year) fields as filters within the search results page. This is a big help when you are presented with tons of search results for your query.
Facebook Search is a surefire way to quickly find information about the people and things that you love and care about most. It is pretty exciting to know that its functionalities are continuously being improved on as a result of a successful tie up with Bing.
